How P805 is meant to be used
edit- OK Barack Obama (Q76)position held (P39)President of the United States (Q11696)
statement is subject of (P805)presidency of Barack Obama (Q1379733) - OK Elizabeth II (Q9682)date of death (P570)8 September 2022
statement is subject of (P805)death of Elizabeth II (Q113846055) - OK Canada (Q16)shares border with (P47)United States of America (Q30)
statement is subject of (P805)Canada–United States border (Q119515)
How P805 is often misused
editFor the lack of a better alternative statement is subject of (P805) is currently sometimes misused as follows:
- Not OK Katy Perry (Q42493)X username (P2002)katyperry
statement is subject of (P805)Katy Perry Twitter account (Q65665844)
"Katy Perry has the Twitter username @katyperry" is obviously not the subject of her Twitter account.
- Not OK OpenStreetMap (Q936)official website (P856)https://www.openstreetmap.org/
statement is subject of (P805)www.openstreetmap.org (Q110251495)
Also wrong: the statement "OpenStreetMap has the official website URL https://www.openstreetmap.org/" is not the subject of the OpenStreetMap website.
What to use instead?
editI proposed the property object identifies to avoid this property misuse. --Push-f (talk) 09:43, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Push-f But it's failed due to lack of consensus, and hence P805 label names (in English, and several languages that love to literary translate from en) are changed more broadly. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 02:02, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
