Ways to Contribute

We'll work on preparing and uploading data to QuickStatements. You are welcome to bring your own data. We will have some data to create and edit items for libraries for you to use as well.

Data for creating items for libraries is available here if you do not have your own data to work with. Initial the rows you plan to work with.

1. Prepare the data using VI Commands or CSV Commands. See the templates, Slides, and Documentation on QuickStatements

2. Once your data is ready to load, go to https://quickstatements.toolforge.org

3. Make sure you are logged in OAuth and your name is visible in the upper right corner. If not, then log in

4. Click "New batch"

5. Cut and paste your commands (you should be able to cut and paste V1 commands directly from spreadsheet; I had better luck for CSV commands with opening the file with a text editor and cutting and pasting from there)

6. Start out with one or two items, so you can check that they’ve uploaded as you’d like them to.

7. When you are done, click "Import V1 commands" or "Import CSV commands"

8. The tool will convert your commands into human-readable form. Inspect them and click "Run" to execute ( if adding statements to Commons click "Run in the Background", to run it in the batch mode)

9. As your commands are being processed, double-check the results, and press "STOP" if you detect a problem

10. The user interface will tell you when all commands have been processed

Notes on Adding Data to Existing Items

  • Add a statement with the exact same property and value to an existing item and QuickStatements will not duplicate it.
  • Add a statement with the exact same property and value with a new reference to an existing item and QuickStatements will add only the new reference.
  • Add a statement with the exact same property and value with a new qualifier to an existing item and QuickStatements will add only the qualifier.
  • Add a statement with the exact same property and new value and QuickStatements will add only the new value.
