Wikidata:WikiProject Public art/Tasks
Take photos of public artworks edit
Difficulty level: easy
- Worldwide map of public artworks on Wikidata that don't have a photo yet (made with the WikiShootMe tool)
- Be aware of the 'Freedom of Panorama' rules for the jurisdiction where you are taking our pictures.
Help out with various maintenance and cleanup tasks edit
Difficulty level: intermediate
The following links will bring you to editable lists of Wikidata items (shown in the TABernacle tool) where some 'wrong' data modeling has happened. You can help by correcting these items. How? You can directly edit the items in these lists quite easily, and drag and drop statements to the right place. Sometimes the lists will be empty – and that's a good thing: it means that there are no faulty items to 'fix' anymore!
- List of Wikidata items with instance of public art -> these should become instance of any type of work of art with genre public art.
- List of Wikidata items with instance of land art
- Public art with Authors (P50) where, in most cases, these should be Creator (P170). The creator (P170) property is the correct one for visual arts, but it's a common beginner's mistake to (wrongly) use author (P50). In the TABernacle worklist, you can easily drag and delete the 'wrong' values. The list may be empty, and that's a good thing - then no maintenance is needed anymore!
Make sure every public artwork in the world has a Wikidata item edit
Every permanent public artwork in the world deserves its own Wikidata item. Permanent public artworks are usually created by notable artists, and/or there will be at least some descriptions of them in reliable, public sources. Wikidata, as a free and editable, multilingual and commons-based knowledge base, is a great place to record information about worldwide public artworks.
The process to add an individual artwork
- Check if there is no Wikidata item yet
- Check if there are already photographs of the work on Wikimedia Commons
- No Wikidata item yet, and no photos on Wikimedia Commons yet? Go ahead and create a new item.
Do you want to work with, or import, an entire database of public art?
Which countries have most public artworks listed on Wikidata? And how thoroughly are these works described? You can find this information in the Reports of this WikiProject
