Project dates edit
This project will officially commence on the week beginning Monday 4th of March and run for 12 weeks until the week ending Sunday May 26th. Ambrosia10 intends to be physically at Te Papa on their Tory Street premises three days a week Monday to Wednesday working on the project for 8 hours a day. She also intends to attend any Te Papa Wiki group meeting both to discuss her project and also assist that group with any questions they may have with regard to editing or contributing to Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikicommons.
Plan of work summary edit
- Liaise with Te Papa staff to obtain information and data on research expeditions
- Create and enrich Wikidata items on research expeditions affiliated with Te Papa staff and/or collections
- Ensure these research expedition items are appropriately interlinked with existing or newly created Wikidata items on such things as locations, people, vessels etc in line with the proposed schema.
- Have discussions with Te Papa staff, participants in the Wikidata Research expeditions project and the TDWG research expeditions working group to resolve any issues raised during the project
- Investigate with Te Papa staff reusing Wikidata items for research expeditions in Te Papa’s collection management system.
- Ensure discussions on schema and any decisions or agreements reached are documented. The current document being used by Ambrosia10, the Wikidata WikiProject Research Expeditions and the TDWG working group can be seen here.
- Regularly meet with the Te Papa Wiki group to explain and keep them up to date about the project, the schema and the proposed best practice documentation.
- Present to Te Papa staff on the project (likely half way through the project to illicit more information on expeditions)
- At or near the end of the project write a report giving a summary of the project, the efforts undertaken to conceptualise the project, how to go about obtaining funding and institutional support for project, giving information on the practical issues and challenges addressed during the project, the outreach efforts undertaken and a summary of the outcomes of the project.
- Hold a public facing Wikidata event to improve research expedition data from any New Zealand institution
- Given the disparate sources of information on Te Papa research expeditions this aim has been pivoted towards delivering at least one, possible two, Wikipedia editathons.
Other possible outcomes edit
- It is possible a paper on the project may be submitted to the Tuhinga journal
- Should Ambrosia10 be able to physically attend Wikimania 2024 she intends put in an abstract to present on this project at that conference
- Funding has been obtained and an abstract submitted to the Wikimania 2024 organising committee.
- Should Ambrosia10 obtain funding to attend the joint 2024 SPNHC/TDWG conference she intends to consult with WikiProject Research Expeditions participants on whether she should submit an application to present on the Te Papa project.
- As at the beginning of April an abstract is being drafted to presented by Ambrosia10 at the joint SPNHC/TDWG conference.
