I don't get it edit
Sorry, I don't get it. What's the point of this property? I haven't found a good definition here.
Also, I am not really happy with calling it just “as”. English pronouns have way too many different meanings, so they do not make the best property name. The word “as” also is heavily context-dependant, so the name is not really helping. I fear it may also be difficult to translate properly because of this.
And what the hell do you mean with “generic qualifier”?
Please, whoever invented this property, answer this:
- What is this property for?
- What is its definition?
- Do you have any better names for this property? Because I find “as” pretty vague.
Specific meanings of this property edit
This property is probably the most ambiguous on the project, which messes around with the idea of "structured data" in the first place. But it's in use, so we might as well try to classify ways it can be used. Here's a few notable ones:
- X is a Y of Z, but what kind of Y, specifically? Examples include qualifying member of (P463) to specify a type of member (observer member, a role within a group, etc), specifying type of crew member for film crew member (P3092) (which has it as a mandatory qualifier)
- X is a Y of Z, but we also want to indicate that X or Z is "being" W for some kind of purpose. Examples include P794 (P794) Chinese Taipei (Q216923), author pseudonyms, etc.
- X is a Y of Z, but more specifically than the general Z, the X is the Y of W. Example: position held (P39) Governor of X P794 (P794) acting governor (Q4676866).
- The statement as a whole is only (qualifying) "X". Example: P794 (P794) de facto (Q712144).
There are also a whole lot of completely different types of uses, many of which are hard to categorize. I would recommend trying to split different kinds off into separate clear-cut properties. --Yair rand (talk) 22:11, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
- To get an overview in which domains this property is used I created a pie chart with all properties on which P794 (P794) is used as qualifier. --Pasleim (talk) 16:29, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
- No need to, we can just say good bye to this property. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 14:52, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
