The records are primarily the administrative correspondence and curatorial files of Elizabeth H. Payne reflecting her duties and professional activities in the Department of Education and the Department of Western Art since the Renaissance. Included are the preparation of public lectures and gallery talks, the establishment of the "Film as an Art" program, expertising, scholarly research, the arrangement of exhibitions, and Ms. Payne's vital work as editor of the Bulletin of the Detroit Institute of Arts. In addition, there is a small amount of personal correspondence from friends and relatives. (English)
