The genus and species are named in memory of the plant's first collector, Miss Margaret E. Dryden-Dymond, gardening apprentice and improver at the National Botanic Gardens, Kirstenbosch from 1927 to 1932, when she became a member of the staff: she resigned in 1937 to take up teaching work and died in June 1952.
