The Celestia space simulator was invaluable in determining the galactic itineraries and vistas described in this book (particularly the location of the final confrontation), with geographic help from The Guide to the Galaxy by Nigel Henbest and Heather Couper (for the real stuff) and Star Trek Star Charts by Geoffrey Mandel (for the not-so-real). Memory Alpha and Wikipedia were invaluable references as well. (English)

The concept of a black hole event horizon as an information sink is based on Dr. Leonard Susskind’s proposed solution to the black hole information paradox formulated by Dr. Stephen Hawking, with added inspiration from the Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda episode “The Banks of the Lethe” by Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz (although I have taken some slight liberties with the physics for story purposes). (English)
