@Fralambert: Sorry for edit warring a little with countries here. I'm trying to get the location map at en:Arecibo Observatory to work correctly by using information in this entry. When the country is set to the USA, then the map shown doesn't include Arecibo. When it's Puerto Rico then it does, but that isn't really the 'country', although I think country is also supposed to represent the state... Anyhow, the problem is on the use side, not the data side, so I've started a discussion on enwp about how to tackle this. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 22:59, 4 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Removed US because it renders as "Arecibo, Puerto Rico, US" in the infobox but PR is not in the US. Note: The infobox is transcluded from properties in the Wikidata item. Thus the wikidata item should have the Property: located in the administrative territorial entity = to Puerto Rico and Arecibo, both, but should not have the country Property. If the wikidata item were to include the country Property (=United States) it would incorrectly display in the article as Arecibo, Puerto Rico, US. Rationale: Location of observatory is in Puerto Rico and Puerto Rico is not "in" the United States. See Wikiproject Puerto Rico and PR Project Standards.--The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 04:57, 10 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure what is confusing about the fact that this observatory is located in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is not "in" the United States.--The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 14:39, 18 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Mike Peel: We need find a fix the enwiki infobox without borking Wikidata. Primary value for P17 should be Q30. P131 can include Q1183. Please stop changing this around. --- Jura 12:23, 21 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
See when the US politicians discuss The Arecibo Observatory, for example: Hillary Clinton. They know it's not in the U.S. Puerto Rico is not in the U.S. How would this be fixed without borking? https://www.congress.gov/bill/110th-congress/senate-bill/2862
Try searching for Arecibo in the US and you will not find it. Please help us fix the English Wiki infobox for the Arecibo Observatory. Thank you. https://ce.naco.org/ --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 14:29, 21 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
None of this is particularly relevant to Wikidata. Please don't import debates from Wikipedia to Wikidata.
Here the question is just what goes in P17. It can be Q30 or another state. --- Jura 22:48, 21 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Fixed spelling ("does" -> "goes"). Added bold. --- Jura 15:34, 22 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Please, note that the Wikidata item is somehow feeding the English wikipedia article, so the discussions are relevant if you care to understand the issue.--The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 22:51, 21 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

on the Spanish wiki article the location correctly shows Arecibo, Puerto Rico. In the English it's incorrectly showing Arecibo, US. What do you suggest can be done to correct this?--The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 23:04, 21 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

My latest infobox code is that in use at commons:Category:Arecibo Observatory - I think it displays OK there, so I'll probably do an update to the telescope infobox on enwp at some point soon. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 11:37, 22 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Mike Peel: Please, at your earliest convenience. The community would appreciate it, if I may speak for the community. --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 15:19, 22 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Mike Peel: Mike, would you have time to make this correction to the Arecibo Observatory on Wiki English? Many editors are wasting a lot of time trying to get around the incorrect hardcoding in the infobox which is being transcluded. https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Talk:Q11703 and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Arecibo_Observatory#Where_is_the_Observatory_located? Happy Holidays.--The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 14:15, 9 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
The location of Arecibo Observatory is in Arecibo, Puerto Rico not Arecibo, US. I updated the wikidata item to reflect that so it shows correctly on the English wikipedia article's infobox. There are 50 states in the US and PR is not one of them... --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 18:04, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@The Eloquent Peasant: Sorry for the delay, the change is now made, please test it and see how it looks. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:26, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Mike Peel: No worries. Everything looks good. Thank you. --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 23:19, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Changing of scope edit

So @Mike Peel, CrystallineLeMonde: if you change the scrope, please move all "links here" to a new destination - Arecibo Observatory (Q102327045). --Infovarius (talk) 22:05, 30 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
