Hi Edgars2007,

It's meant to apply to items for given names/family names only.
I would first of all suggest to add them as Aliases ... there is already a property for a person's name in a certain language, can't that be used?
There is name (P2561) and transliteration (P2440), but the general tendency for the later is to do specific properties: Property:P2440#P1659.
I don't think name (P2561) is used on items for given names/family names.
Alias can work, I'd avoid the use in labels, e.g.
shouldn't show the same label in lv. If we only use it as alias, there is no way to retrieve it in a systematic way.
Earlier discussion at Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Names#Latvian_and_proper_nouns.
The aliases are first of all meant to drive the search results. I would not care for a specific property, if it is going to be used on a good share of the items. If someone has a script to fill them up, and the new property serves a good cause: just do it.
Let's see how the proposal goes. I think it would help if someone knowledgeable about Latvian would comment there.
Let's continue discussion un the property proposal page. From my perspective Q2660560 and Q5337600 could have the same Latvian label if there is a description which includes original spelling.
