About Project chat edit
When I first visited Wikidata, five days after the site's launch, I discovered there was no forum for discussion. There was Wikidata:Contact the development team, but that wasn't really intended for general discussion. I think there was a bit of discussion on the community portal talk page, or something like that. So I thought, "I'll be bold and create a discussion venue." I tried to think of a clever name for it, but when I came up with nothing, I decided to choose a name with a "relaxed" feel, to promote informal, calm "chat" about the project.
And so I created Wikidata:Project chat [1] [2]. Not everyone was a fan of the name, but I reckon it's better than the hackneyed "village pump" metaphor!
While I was at it, I also created a "root" category, Category:Wikidata (at the time there were just a few orphaned categories sitting around). But that one didn't quite stick – now Category:Contents is the root.
