Wikimap and Wikidata

edit

Hi DB111,

Interesting tool at https://wikimap.toolforge.org ! To illustrate Wikidata items, it could be interesting to have an option to display Wikidata items instead of Wikipedia articles. --- Jura 14:19, 12 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

BTW, given that images sometimes don't load, I wonder if you are using standard image sizes (e.g. 320, 640, 800, 1024, 1280, 1920). See phab:T258241 for problem had with one of the Wikidata tools. --- Jura 14:41, 12 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your appreciation! Good idea to support Wikidata, so I added it: https://wikimap.toolforge.org/?project=wikidata&commons=false
Thank you also for providing the standard image sizes, I now receive the 320px size to reduce server load. But the main reason for missing images is the MediaWiki API limit of 50 images per call, for better user experience I avoid multiple (delaying) API calls at the moment.

Great. Thanks!
I'm fairly clueless about what gets loaded when, but somehow I'd expect for images to be loaded when I click on one of the icons and the image name gets displayed.
Depending on the area being displayed, it could be interesting to display (a/the) label of the Wikidata. Frequently that is a place on the map already. --- Jura 17:38, 12 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
I added the label. --DB111 (talk) 20:31, 12 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I created WikiMap (Q99232292) about the tool. Shall I added it to Wikidata:Status updates/Next or should we do that next week? --- Jura 09:13, 13 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, feel free as you like. --DB111 (talk) 10:34, 13 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
