Tools edit

I've been following your questions on Project Chat with interest. Another tool you might want to look into is Tabernacle, which lets you drag-and-drop statements from one item to another and compare what statements are on which items, as well as editing in the Tabernacle interface. You can make a list with a query or a manual list of items to work with. It's an external tool, so you have to login via the tool to use it.

It's kind of hard to imagine without seeing it, so for reference, this is one of my Tabernacle lists.

It doesn't work on mobile, alas, because I'd love to use it on my iPad. Feel free to ping me if you have any other questions. - PKM (talk) 21:24, 2 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

@PKM: oh that's a very nice tool! Is there any way to add references and qualifiers? With those, it would be a really good replacement for the actual site. Thanks! DemonDays64 | Talk to me 23:51, 2 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
I don't know of a way to add references and qualifiers, though you can copy them once they are added. - PKM (talk) 00:34, 3 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Use of translation edit

Hi, I suggest you find other ways to contribute to lexemes than adding translation (as these are redundant and not that useful at all). E.g. adding etymology from Wiktionary :) See my edits for how I do it.--So9q (talk) 09:00, 5 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

@So9q: oh. Could you elaborate more on that? On your edits it mostly seems to be something really applicable to Danish and other languages that combine words a lot, such as on pilleovnsrensehoved (L230252). How would that be applied to something like Spanish or English? Also, what other lexeme work would be very useful? I've been going through the first few English entries made and have tried adding Spanish lexemes for that language's equivalent terms, as oddly Spanish has a pretty low number of the limited number words I've learned; is that a good use of time? Thanks! DemonDays64 | Talk to me 15:48, 5 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi :) Sorry if I was unclear. What I mean is that I never use https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P5972. If your goal is to translate I suggest helping to add spanish labels and descriptions to Q-items instead, or to use https://tools.wmflabs.org/machtsinn/?lang=1321 (spanish version of the tool). This adds senses and item of this sense to the lexemes from which we infer translations of the same item i different languages. I work on etymology, see https://tools.wmflabs.org/ordia/L230382 for an example of the compounds and derived words of kirke (church). Happy editing :)--So9q (talk) 16:11, 5 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
@So9q: Hi again! I've been editing in different conjugations of verbs in Spanish and creating entries for very common Spanish words that strangely don't have one (e.g. comer {to eat}, describir {to describe}, and some low numbers) with conjugation, a link to the translation because I feel I might as well have one, and an English definition. Thanks for the suggestion to focus on more than translation! Any more useful things like conjugation that I could easily work on? DemonDays64 | Talk to me 15:00, 10 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Interview Invitation edit

Hi DemonDays64,

I noticed your message on Wikidata project chat, which led me to look up your profile. Thank you for all the hard work!

I’m reaching out to you because I’m working on a research project about understanding what motivates editors like you to contribute to Wikidata. We’re also interested in learning about how you feel your contributions are being used outside of Wikidata. Since you are such an active community member, I thought you might also be interested in helping to build the broader community’s knowledge about Wikidata, and why it matters.

If you’re interested, let’s schedule a time to talk over Zoom, or whichever platform you prefer. You could leave a direct message or fill in a questionnaire. The conversation should take about 30 min.

Hope you have a great day,
