Maesa perlari*

Hi Hyperik,

I noticed you moved Maesa perlarius to Maesa perlaria at Wikispecies. That is not right: perlarius is a noun in apposition and may not be altered. - Brya (talk) 17:55, 16 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Brya, I'm neither a taxonomist nor trained in (botanical) Latin, and so I generally defer to authorities such as Tropicos.[1] However, I see that while they cite Flora of China, FoC itself is retaining the -us ending[2] as well is Plants of the World Online.[3] Please feel free to update/revert any erroneous changes I may have made. Thanks! Hyperik (talk) 21:58, 16 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
In general, Tropicos is a valuable database, but it is also a work in progress and has its share of errors. The Flora of China is a lot more reliable, although not entirely error free. Better still is GRIN. However, this is not based on authority, but on internationally agreed-on rules (ICNafp). You can also ask Franz Xaver; he knows this stuff. - Brya (talk) 10:49, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
