February 2013 edit

Hello, I'm PinkAmpersand. Welcome to Wikidata! I noticed that you recently removed a link from Q224334, but didn't add it anywhere else. If you feel that the link would be better suited to another item, please add it there. (If you don't know how to do that, feel free to contact me at my talk page and I can do it for you.) If you're curious about editing Wikidata, and would like to test things out, please try the Wikidata Sandbox. Thanks, and happy editing! — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 00:20, 26 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Are you saying it is forbidden to remove an incorrect link unless I add it somewhere else? --Jmk (talk) 00:29, 26 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's not expressly forbidden, but Wikidata is supposed to have items for all but a handful of Wikipedia articles. Of course, if an editor removes a link and I can understand where the link is supposed to go, I just put it there myself. But in this case both links appeared valid to me. Why do you feel that they're incorrect? — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 02:33, 26 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
"Sin" Q224334 links to disambiguation pages for the word, name or abbreviation "Sin" or "SIN". Typical contents of those disambig pages are, for example, the trigonometric function; place names such as the en:Sin River in Thailand; personal names such as Sin Yong-nam; abbreviations such as SIN for the Spanish International Network. They are not in general related to the English word sin. Now why do you feel that the Bulgarian disambiguation page bg:Грях (пояснение) (Грях, "grjah" being the Bulgarian translation for English sin) has anything to do with these? Please note the recent discussion where such translation links were generally opposed. --Jmk (talk) 02:57, 26 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oh. Good point. I wasn't aware of that discussion, but I agree with the arguments made there. In that case, though, could you please create items for the Bulgarian and Japanese articles? Thanks. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 03:28, 26 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
So if there is a lone Bulgarian article bg:Грях (пояснение) without anything to link to, I have to create a one-entry Wikidata item for it anyway? I didn't know that. Wow, correcting Wikidata links just turned out to be more difficult than I imagined. --Jmk (talk) 07:24, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
You don't have to, but as long as there's no method in the software to give a specifc reason for a link removal, it makes things a lot simpler if you add the links somewhere else. And creating an item takes about 3 seconds, and is a nice little bit of community service. But if you really don't want to, you won't get blocked or anything. It's just helpful. I'm gonna head to bed soon, but if you'd prefer I create the items, just say the word and I will as soon as I get the chance. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 07:30, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
No, it's ok, I'll find out how to create that one-page item. It's just something I was not expecting to have to do. --Jmk (talk) 07:32, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Merging edit

Hallo Jmk,
When you merge items, you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It helps with merging, gives the option to always keep the lower number (which is older, so preferable in most cases) and removes the need to file a request on Wikidata:Requests for deletions.

Thanks. Will have a look on the tools. --Jmk (talk) 14:17, 24 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Translation request edit

Hello.

Can you create en:Visa policy of Azerbaijan, en:Visa requirements for Azerbaijani citizens and en:Azerbaijani passport in Finnish Wikipedia?

Yours sincerely, Gartok (talk) 21:24, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi. In general I do not do articles by translation, and visa policies are not among my main interests. But thanks for the suggestion. All the best. --Jmk (talk) 05:33, 20 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
