Changing username

edit

Hello and Sat Sri Akaal! I don't know where to request so writing here. I'm changing my username globally to "itarbuttar" as per the meta request. Please check to verify and rename and oblige. Thanks a lot. --TariButtar (talk) 14:14, 7 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

You must await formation of the ordinary bureucrats/admins to do ordinary maintenance stuff. It would still take some days before the eections are closed. Sorry for the inconvenience. John Erling Blad (WMDE) (talk) 12:00, 8 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hindi MainPage

edit

Hello John, I'm working on the Hindi version of the mainpage. When I moved the page from userdraft to project namespace, the title is still visible which is an unusual case for the mainpage. It's fine (as it should be) on English, French and German versions. Do you know what's wrong?--Bill william compton (talk) 15:28, 8 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Done. Bill William Compton, isn't that the vampire guy? /me scared now John Erling Blad (WMDE) (talk) 17:37, 8 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Warning! I may be thirsty :) However, my name is hidden in somewhere.--Bill william compton (talk) 06:29, 9 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Excuse me, sir. I'd like to change link from ‘대문’ (Main page) to ‘Wikidata:대문’ (Wikidata:Main page) in Korean Main-page name (MediaWiki:Mainpage/ko).Would you add namespace ‘Wikidata:’? Thank you. --Idh0854 (talk) 05:46, 12 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Seems like its already done! :) John Erling Blad (WMDE) (talk) 21:28, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Irritating font and editing tool

edit
  • Currently Wikidata is using Lohit Devanagari font by default, and it's really disgusting. Please change it to default font of Hindi Wikipedia.
  • At present there is no editing tool for Indic languages. In the absence of proper editing tool, it's very difficult to type in Hindi or any other Indic language (don't know about Southern languages), especially when it comes to typing punctuations. In Devanagari, purna virama and halant are used very often; purna virama is similar to period of Latin languages. Now I'm compelled to use period instead of purna virama e.g. Wikidata:Translation administrators/hi. Editing tool of Meta-Wiki can be used here.--Bill william compton (talk) 06:29, 9 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Fonts are the defaults for Mediawiki. We did change some of them (only latin fonts) but I think its back to the usual now. In the future IME will be used, at least if the ULS team can get it to work properly. I am not sure if it will be used on all fields, but it will probably be used on fields with the apropriate language. John Erling Blad (WMDE) (talk) 17:14, 9 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hindi main page and news

edit

Hi John, I realised that the Hindi main page is outdated and needs to be updated. I thought I'd volunteer to take it up for now. Since I need to shift some news to the archive, I created a page. However, instead of creating WD:News/hi, I created Wikidata:समाचार instead. Is that okay? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 15:35, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that should create any problem. Jeblad (talk) 07:40, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for clarifying! Cheers, --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 11:47, 23 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
