Wikt-categories

Hello, Kiberevoliucija. Please explain why do you delete non-empty categories in lt-wiktionary? --Infovarius (talk) 18:43, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi; there's a simple, but lengthy explanation for that. First off, those categories that were deleted were heavily outdated and no longer used in any of the newer words (in fact, that strange category tree was probably the prototype for the category/Visos kalbos format (a category, in which all languages which have the following category may be seen)). A necessary mention is that the categories that you had restored have not been in use for more than 10 years now; their existence and linking to other unused categories may throw any reader down a rabbit hole of sparse and un-formatted content. Second off, the pages that do link to those categories are never of the correct wiki format (they are done in a wikipedia type of format and thus they even fit a criteria for complete deletion - wiktionary is not wikipedia). However, I don't want those pages to be entirely lost; them entering the list of pages which link to non-existent categories would make it easier to come back to these words in the future. These are the reasons for the deletion of those categories. Please refrain from reinstating those categories; and meanwhile I'll create a new template for those wikipedia-type words (so I can locate them in the future), as well as making sure that they no longer link to those unused categories.--Kiberevoliucija (talk) 07:11, 14 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
