Hello @Lucas Werkmeister (WMDE): a week ago! I heard about the WMA programme and I got so excited to join. I have been contributing to the WMF projects for 9 years now and I feel its the time to contribute differently. I read about the projects you do and I would love to have you as my mentor. Please say yes :) I do not have any previous experience with programming or any relevant technical experience, but I am curious learner and also have been working in Tech for 7 years now, I would say I am quite familiar with many things but with no hands on experience. ~~~~~.

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

Sure, we can give it a go! What’s the best way to talk to you – maybe Telegram?

May Hachem93 (talkcontribs)

Hi Lucas!! Yayyyy, sure, Telegram works for me.

Hi @Lucas Werkmeister!

Thank you for reverting 'she'. I wanted to translate it for pronoun (showing at the bottom of the databox) here. After translating it, it still showed the lexeme ID instead of the translation. If I create it as a new lexeme in Igbo language, will it reflect on the databox as ọ (she in Igbo language?

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

No, the databox will show the value of the personal pronoun (P6553) statement on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Q230141), which is currently she (L484) – the statement refers specifically to an English lexeme, so it wouldn’t be correct to show a translation.

That doesn’t mean that the statement is actually correct – at least, I don’t find the current reference particularly convincing (where does File:ChimamandaAdichie.jpg specify that she uses she/her pronouns?). It’s possible the statement should be removed, or replaced with another one pointing to an Igbo lexeme, if a reference can be found for that.

Hello @Lucas Werkmeister:, I would like to be mentored by you. I hope you will accept me to be your mentee~~~~

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

Sure! Tell me a bit about yourself – have you developed something before? Is there any area or direction you’re particularly interested in? (We can also talk on Telegram if you prefer ^^)

Q3667188: comune is masculin in Italian

Robykiwi (talkcontribs)

Dear Lucas,

I corrected the Italian definition "comune francese soppressa" to "comune francese soppresso", because "comune" is masculin in Italian. See the corresponding Italian Wikipedia page (first sentence): https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherbourg

Cherbourg /ʃɛʁ'buʁ/ (in normanno Tchidbouo) è una località e un comune francese soppresso

I'd recommend that you revert to masculine.

In its feminine meaning, it refers to: the French Jacobin government or "a form of collective organization of life and work in which the ownership and management of the means of production and services is in common and the distribution of the product is made partly according to the work done and partly according to the different needs of each person and families."

I’m sorry, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Can you link to the relevant edit?

Hm, do you have an example for bad uses of these properties? (Could be cases that you’ve fixed already – the essay links to permalinks for a reason ^^)

Jarnsax (talkcontribs)

I don't remember offhand where I saw them, but I'll poke you when I run across another one.

I would say that one falls under “scope of the subject”.

Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors

1
Kholoudsaa (talkcontribs)

Dear Lucas Werkmeister,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.

Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

If you’re interested in participating and have 15-20 minutes to chat (I promise to keep the time!), please either contact me at [] or [] or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdmmFHaiB20nK14wrQJgfrA18PtmdagyeRib3xGtvzkdn3Lgw/viewform?usp=sf_link with your choice of the times that work for you.

I’ll follow up with you to figure out what method is the best way for us to connect.

Please contact me if you have any questions or require more information about this project.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

Kholoud
