Hm, do you have an example for bad uses of these properties? (Could be cases that you’ve fixed already – the essay links to permalinks for a reason ^^)

Jarnsax (talkcontribs)

I don't remember offhand where I saw them, but I'll poke you when I run across another one.

I would say that one falls under “scope of the subject”.

Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors

1
Kholoudsaa (talkcontribs)

Dear Lucas Werkmeister,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.

Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

If you’re interested in participating and have 15-20 minutes to chat (I promise to keep the time!), please either contact me at [] or [] or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdmmFHaiB20nK14wrQJgfrA18PtmdagyeRib3xGtvzkdn3Lgw/viewform?usp=sf_link with your choice of the times that work for you.

I’ll follow up with you to figure out what method is the best way for us to connect.

Please contact me if you have any questions or require more information about this project.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

Kholoud

Hallo Lucas, SpeedPatrolling gibt bei mir 502 Bad Gateway aus. Vielleicht magst du dir das ja mal ansehen?

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

Scheint bei mehreren Tools zu passieren, ich weiß aber noch nicht, woran es liegt :/

template for Swedish proper nouns deployed

LA2 (talkcontribs)

How are new lexeme forms / templates added? To begin with, Swedish could need one for proper nouns. These have two forms: nominative case, genitive case, as in the example Lexeme:L475568. Should I come here to ask you to do it, or can I add a template myself?

LA2 (talkcontribs)
Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

You can add a template yourself at Wikidata:Wikidata Lexeme Forms/Swedish, possibly in collaboration with the people who already edited that page. When it’s ready, ping me and I’ll add it to the tool :)

LA2 (talkcontribs)
Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

One minor thing: are proper nouns always capitalized in Swedish? If they aren’t, it would be better to rephrase the second example sentence so the input isn’t at the beginning of the sentence – otherwise, people might enter the word in uppercase just because it starts a sentence, when the lexeme/form should really be lowercase.

LA2 (talkcontribs)

Good point! Fixed now.

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

Alright, done :) thanks!

LA2 (talkcontribs)

(Never mind, I found out that this was already implemented.)

Structured data across Wikimedia is starting!

Sannita (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hello there, Lucas! I am writing to you because a new WMF project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW), is about to start.

SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet.

The reason why I am contacting you is because of [your work on the projects, especially on Wikidata], and your opinion would be of great interest for us to kickstart the discussion. We defined a series of questions we would like to have feedback on. If you want to ask a question on your own, or just want to share with us your ideas or opinions, please feel free to do so!

Also, if you know some other user(s) that can be interested, please let me know or invite them to join the discussion. The more, the better!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

Pardon, the reason you’re contacting me is what? 😜

Thanks for the notification – I think I randomly came across the page a few days ago (don’t remember why) and was a bit confused about its status (who’s proposing this? is it actually happening or just what some random person would like to happen?), glad that’s a bit clearer now. I’ll be interested in where this goes!

Sannita (WMF) (talkcontribs)

OMG, I'm so sorry, I usually fix the message for all the users, and... I made a mistake about yours. -_-' I'm so sorry. Thanks for the feedback, and if you're interested I'll keep you posted. :)

Wikidata Lexeme Forms - Portuguese

EnaldoSS (talkcontribs)

Hi. I added sections in Portuguese for insertion of feminine and masculine nouns (based on those in Spanish). Can you take a look?

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

Thanks! The noun templates look good to me – I left a question about the adjective one on the talk page.

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

About the unnecessary capital letters issue, maybe an alternative option would be to rephrase the sentences so the placeholder word isn’t at the beginning anymore? My Portuguese isn’t very good, but something like Aí, canta tu agora…?

EnaldoSS (talkcontribs)

Done! :D

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

Wait, but now we have two forms with the same set of grammatical features, that can’t be right. Maybe instead of tu/você it should be tu/ele? (Wiktionary claims that In Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina and most Northeastern States, tu is used in very informal situations, though it uses the third-person singular conjugation of verbs – I guess that was the logic behind the previous versions?)

EnaldoSS (talkcontribs)

Indeed, I mistook the pronoun with the verb

Dear Lucas Werkmeister:

I have a notification that I have not read until now about the deletion of an item. This is the diff in which I was mentioned. I don't remember the item nor something about it. I am not discussing you the decision of the deletion, I am just asking which item was. I am bit confused about it, because if I created an item with just Instagram links as references it must have been an old one created by me.

Excuse me the inconvenience of asking you about something happened some months ago. Thanks in advance.

Regards.

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

I don’t remember the item either, sorry – you’ll have to ask an admin…

Ivanhercaz (talkcontribs)

Thank you, Lucas! I will do it.

I'm unhappy about the removed years. Isn't it possible to integrate fictional calendars into Wikidata somehow?

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

Eventually, maybe – but if Wikibase gains support for fictional calendars before some real ones (see e. g. Julian day, Hebrew, Solar Hijri), then some people will probably get angry, and quite rightfully so.
