Author last names edit

Hi there, I noticed some problems with your edits adding author last names (P9688), for example [1]. There are probably lots more similar problems. Are you able to fix these? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:21, 27 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely! So sorry about this and thanks for bringing it to my attention. PangolinMexico (talk) 08:25, 28 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Adding last name and first name of the authors: is there a real interest? edit

Hello PangolinMexico, I am a little bit surprised to discover you added last name and first name for each author for this item. Honestly we can found this information on the referred pages. Too much data on the server is, for me, a bad idea. Have a great day. Givet (talk) 15:55, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Givet! I think there is a real interest as it facilitates automatic citation creation for Wikicite. What do you think? PangolinMexico (talk) 15:57, 9 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Reverted your August 23-24 changes to Q21481867 edit

The bot had more than doubled the size of the item, from about 2 MB to about 4.5 MB, which made it impossible to edit any further. I suspect other items have been affected. I recommend you NOT use the bot to do these edits on any items with over 2000 authors. Maybe a 1000 or so limit would be preferable. If it does edit such items it should limit the number of authors affected - maybe just the first 10 or so. As I understand it the primary use of the last name information is for displaying author lists in standard citation format; nobody is going to display 1000 authors in a citation! ArthurPSmith (talk) 20:41, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oh no! Thanks so much for pointing that out, I'll add a 1000 author limit and test the size increase difference. :) PangolinMexico (talk) 22:04, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

@PangolinMexico: So why is your bot now editing Measurement of Higgs boson production in the diphoton decay channel in pp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector (Q21481867)?? Please leave it and similar items alone! ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:00, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
And it has now made this item completely uneditable again - "The entity is too big. The maximum allowed entity size is 2.93 MB.". How can we get this to stop? ArthurPSmith (talk) 14:48, 27 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Arthur, it's not too hard of a fix — I will stop the bot for today and fix the code tomorrow so any item stops after hitting a certain number of authors! I'm so sorry about this. PangolinMexico (talk) 14:59, 27 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
