Hi! Welcome to my talk page!
Why Typhoon Joan (Q100270450)'s instance of (P31) is tropical storm (Q96053756) by Japan Meteorological Agency (Q860935) ? I think the recognition is different depending on the location. But it is recognized as a typhoon in Japan as shown on Digital Typhoon typhoon ID (P5015)(台風196429号: Typhoon 29th of 1964). --Camillu87 (talk) 05:12, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Camillu87: I just checked in here (using Matmo, which is an actual tropical storm) and from what I can see from Digital Typhoon, all JMA TCs are identified as typhoons. However, JMA considers them as typhoons if they reach intensity of 65 kt in 10-minute winds. And per Digital Typhoon, Joan (1964) doesn't have a defined 10-minute wind intensity. While Joan can be considered as typhoon this way, it is OR (original research) to see that statement be supported by JMA. While you manually reverted my edit, it is right that you didn't put "statement supported by JMA" back on the typhoon identifier. I'm not going to put it back (the Tropical Storm statement supported by JMA) again. Thanks!

- @SMB99thx: Thank you for the explanation. This is because the definition of typhoon is different between Japanese local standards (35 kt and above) and international standards (65 kt and above).See (The Classification of Intensity of Typhoons) In Japan, typhoons of 35 kt or more are defined and operated. I'm wondering as a P1013 JMA using criterion used (P1013) instead of statement supported by (P3680) as a qualifier. --Camillu87 (talk) 14:57, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
