P1969 (P1969): (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs)

In 2015 this property was proposed based on the idea that the website is similar to Rotten Tomatoes. That is not the case at all. Rotten Tomatoes has more authority and more impact than MovieMeter, for which not a single source can be found to establish any kind of notability. Hiro (talk) 17:01, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about the original proposal but it's used over 17,000 times and the site seems to be real (and in Dutch). I see you're proposing the NL wikipedia page nl:MovieMeter for deletion, but Wikidata criteria are a little different from Wikipedia's. ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:22, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The website is real, yes. But so is this website. The property creation criteria say nothing about a condition or limitations, but I presume that there needs to be more about a website than just its existance before a property can be based on it? Hiro (talk) 17:39, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know. It seems to be copied from IMDb, so, sure. Is that all it takes? Copy information from one database to start another one and have it made a property? Hiro (talk) 10:36, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Note that the original IDs are no longer advertised by the site, all director URLs have become HTTP redirects to person-pages that correspond to MovieMeter person ID (P9463). (For some people there is now a "Wikicode" field with a longer ID that is also a redirect.) I'm quite mad that I'm only seeing this now. Yes, these became redirects but it is still useful to keep this property and its values. At one point these IDs existed, and they could be used in the future to resolve these IDs if ever needed. There is no use in deleting them, though. Máté (talk) 18:01, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Generally speaking, it's never a good idea to remove data that once held true. You might have a table somewhere which identifies directors by this ID. If I want to get the new IDs (or any other property available here), Wikidata is a great resource to query and join them. Máté (talk) 06:13, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry you didn't see the discussion before it got closed. A tag was placed on the property talk as required. I'm not sure what I can do to help now, as most of these statements have been removed. Of course I would be happy to revert those if consensus can be found that these identifiers are useful. Máté has a point here. After some digging I found Wikidata:Requests for comment/Handling of stored IDs after they've been deleted or redirected in the external database and Wikidata talk:Identifiers#Typical repair situations.
