- Delete and replace with coordinate location (P625) Multichill (talk) 15:41, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
P8981 (P8981): (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs)
We normally use coordinate location (P625) for coordinates on multiple globes, and this is how the use of coordinates is implemented on multiple Wikimedia projects. Having a separate property for Lunar coordinates just confuses things, and it isn't necessary. The main issue about not being able to select the coordinate globe via the UI is at phab:T56097 - and supporting work on that ticket would be much more useful than having a separate property for this. I can offer bot support to migrate existing uses of this property over to coordinate location (P625) with the correct globe. Thanks. —Mike Peel (talk) 20:42, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per nom. Furthermore, it seems that the only support the proposal received was from editors that the nominator blatantly canvassed. And that proposal was only made after Wikidata:Property proposal/planetary coordinates was rejected with only a single supporter. The objectors on the original proposal were not pinged when the second one was made; and neither were the relevant projects (who were pinged for the first proposal). KeepSee above on Martian coordinates. I don't recall any of the details Andy mentions, but really, property proposals are announced every week in the newsletter, is pinging so critical? ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:39, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]- Also see my reply at Wikidata:Properties for deletion/P10628. Looking back at the newsletter, this was buried amongst other proposals and was very easy to miss (I completely missed it). Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 20:12, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- All of the details I mentioned are gleanable from the pages mentioned, which is where I found them on the 24th. The issue in this case was the partisan pinging. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:19, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. With the creation of Bamyer's globe tool (see discussion at Wikidata:Properties_for_deletion/P10628) and a bot being created to convert incorrect uses of coordinate location (P625) (see Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot/Pi bot 26), there is no need for this property or P10628 (P10628) anymore. — Huntster (t @ c) 16:13, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Ok, no longer voting to keep. Fine if it's deleted with the coordinates moved to P625. ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:43, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Replace
editI see clear consensus to delete P8981 (P8981) and replace it with coordinate location (P625). @Mike Peel: do you have a bot to do that? Multichill (talk) 15:41, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for closing it. I should be able to migrate values over soon. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 17:48, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- @Mike Peel: reminder ^ Multichill (talk) 12:58, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- @Multichill: As I said at Wikidata:Properties for deletion/P10628, this is currently stuck as I don't have an easy way to migrate them while keeping the reference. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 14:57, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
