- Motivation
An Australian Business Number (ABN) uniquely identifies business enterprises registered within Australia. Addition of this property to Wikidata will assist in linking noteable Australian businesses in Wikidata with government databases which contain records about those businesses. - Support with caution as some entities operate under multiple ABN's example - Wesfarmers own Coles Group operates under Coles Suprmarket, Coles Express, Coles Local, Coles Distribution each with unique ABN's. Individuals can also hold an ABN Gnangarra (talk) 23:38, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose OpenCorporates knows about 300 jurisdictions (which basically means Business Registers) and has data from 120. This proposes to add 5-6 registers for Australia alone. Do we really want to register 300-1500 such properties? I think it may be better to use the same approach used for artworks: "inventory number; with qualifier collection". --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 13:00, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Pixeldomain: Can you describe the specific purpose and the difference between the 5-6 Australian registers? --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 13:00, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Vladimir Alexiev: What is your concern with creating multiple properties per country for business registration identifiers? I don't understand what the issue could be in creating many specific properties. In this case, all four (4)--not 5 or 6--property proposals I proposed have an associated formatter URL which links to external databases with primary information on businesses within Australia. This is one feature which would be lost if a generic "business identifier" property was used instead. For more information on the purposes of the ABN, ACN, ARBN and ARSN, refer to 1, 2, 3 and 4. Organisations within Australia can have one or more of an ABN, ACN, ARBN and/or ARSN depending on the legal structure of their organisation (e.g. company versus charitable association versus sole proprietor versus foreign company). - Support I don't think adding 1000 properties about companies would be a problem. It's valuable for Wikidata to be a central storage place for this data. For all items where the property would be added the property is useful. ChristianKl (talk) 10:38, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
