Motivation
editWikiProject Molecular biology has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead. I propose to add BioCyc ID to be used on Wikipedia in Infobox metabolic pathway to specify the BioCyc ID of the pathway. For example, the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Androgen_backdoor_pathway is about a pathway that has BioCyc ID PWY-8200 and is available at URLs like that:
- https://metacyc.org/META/NEW-IMAGE?object=PWY-8200
According to the description from https://biocyc.org/ (quote): "BioCyc is a collection of 20,043 Pathway/Genome Databases (PGDBs) for model eukaryotes and for thousands of microbes, plus software tools for exploring them. BioCyc is an encyclopedic reference that contains curated data from 146,000 publications.
We have the KEGG ID property but not the BioCyc ID property yet.

Discussion
edit- Comment@Maxim Masiutin: Please format your examples by showing the item you expect to be associated with each value - see other property proposals for how this is done. I'm assuming this should be external-id type, not just a regular string? Also there are additional fields in the proposal template you should consider adding; right now this proposal seems incomplete. ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:00, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- I am sorry, I'm not a techie. Can you please help me in that? If you help me first time, I'd be grateful. I saw other proposals but didn't fully understand.
- The value should be a string in a RegEx format ^([A-Z0-9][A-Z0-9-]*?[A-Z0-9])$ meaning there should be the following characters allowed latin letter, Arabic digits, and hyphen, but the hyphen cannot be the first or the last character.
- for example:
- PWY-8200
- or
- PWY-6943
- or
- PWY66-381
- If it is a pathway, this value should form an URL by concatenating to the following prefix: https://biocyc.org/META/NEW-IMAGE?object=
- For example, if we have MetaCyc ID "PWY-8200", the URL should be:
- In another example, if we have MetaCyc ID "PWY66-381", the URL should be:
- Thank you in advance for your help! Maxim Masiutin (talk) 18:16, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- But what wikidata ID should have one of these pathways as the value on this statement? ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:14, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Maxim Masiutin:, could you please answer the ArthurPSmith's question. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 10:17, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
