- Motivation
CVE numbers have long been established by the computer security industry as the primary method to uniquely identify security vulnerabilities impacting software and devices (such as routers). NIST and MITRE Corporation maintain a public CVE database that is regularly updated with new vulnerabilities which are known and/or reported in public. Linking of the CVE database to Wikidata by CVE numbers will allow for detailed information to be queried from the remote CVE database on the security of software and devices known to Wikidata.
