Motivation

Electronic Enlightenment (EE) is an academic project based at the University of Oxford, providing a database and encyclopedia of figures of the Enlightenment and their letters. It presently has more than 8,000 biographies, but is a long-term project to which more identifiers will be added in future. There is a small overlap between EE identifiers and other authority files such as VIAF, but the majority of people described in EE are not authors or subjects of books, and hence are not in library authority files.
