Motivation

It seems like the import from http://www.gatehouse-gazetteer.info got already started by @Richard Nevell (WMUK): and a lot of items got created without any statements or sources. I looked at two who are also duplicates of existing items. Having this property will allow us to use mix-and-match for this database. ChristianKl (talk) 15:42, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@ChristianKl: Please provide a description, and a link to examples of "the import... got already started ". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:28, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's clear that the property still needs a description before it get's created. If you look at the contributions of Richard Nevell, most of the last 200 hundreds are items that were created this way. ChristianKl (talk) 22:33, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion

@Richard Nevell (WMUK): Thanks for adding the description. Do you think there a good reason to limit this property to Welsh sites? ChristianKl (talk) 12:35, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if it makes a difference to how the property is implemented, but the website has a separate url structure for depending on whether the location is in England or Wales. So http://www.gatehouse-gazetteer.info/English%20sites/$1.html as opposed to http://www.gatehouse-gazetteer.info/Welshsites/$1.html. http://www.gatehouse-gazetteer.info/$1.html doesn't lead anywhere. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 12:46, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Richard Nevell (WMUK): It's generally useful if a property can be used more broadly. As far as the website address is concernced, this can be fixed by treating "Welshsites/" as part of the url. ChristianKl (talk) 14:50, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, it makes sense to make the property broad rather than specific to Wales. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 15:19, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that the example used, Q30758975, has been deleted, by User:ValterVB with a somewhat unlikely claim "Does not meet the notability policy". The deletion does not appear to have been preceded by any discussion. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:05, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I restored the item because it's needed for this discussion. ChristianKl (talk) 10:39, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It has been deleted again. User:ValterVB, this must stop. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:37, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Note this property is being discussed here. @Richard Nevell (WMUK), Pigsonthewing: could you indicate whether you support this proposal and perhaps we can get it created so Mix n Match can create these items with an external id, and stop the deletions? ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:10, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm ambivalent. I'm not sure that "Welshsites" should be part of the ID; maybe we need two properties? I'd like to see an example for England, also. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:37, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I added an additional example for England. ChristianKl (talk) 22:11, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Support Would be a useful ID to have, similar to those for the National Heritage List for England. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 16:22, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Support This property will provide a link to a lot of useful information. I suggest using Welshsites, English%20sites and Island%20sites in the ID to avoid having three separate properties, which seems unnecessary. Sic19 (talk) 15:44, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @ChristianKl, Pigsonthewing, Richard Nevell (WMUK), Sic19:   Done - however, I could not get the English%20sites example to work, no matter how I coded the "%20" - maybe somebody should contact this site to fix their URL handling (to understand the '+' alternative to '%20' which is the default translation). otherwise I think we're going to need separate properties for the "Welsh" and other locations. Or maybe somebody can find a string that actually works with the way our URL formatters work. ArthurPSmith (talk) 14:37, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
