Motivation

edit

The Scottish Highland Bridges website is a database by Wolfgang Krüger containing information, classifications, and photographs of bridges in the Scottish Highlands. The site typically has multiple photographs for each bridge (click on the first picture for slideshow).

The site systematically links back to Historic Environment Scotland ID (P709), Canmore ID (P718), Highland Historic Environment Record ID (P7304), and Aberdeenshire HER ID (P7694) IDs, which should make it possible to match a large proportion of entries to corresponding Wikidata items directly. There are also forward links to the site from Highland Historic Environment Record ID (P7304) entries.

The photographs and the information make this a valuable additional resource for Wikidata items to be linked to. The site may also identify some additional bridges that do not have Historic Scotland or Canmore IDs, that it would be useful to create items for.

As well as Scottish bridges, the site also has sections in the same style relating to the works of Thomas Telford (Q380875), and to bridges in Thuringia. However, these have slightly different URLs, so (if desired) it would make sense to have separate properties for those parts of the site. Jheald (talk) 17:20, 27 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
