•  Comment somehow the existing Wikimedia language code has too many different uses to be allow to combine it on WQS with other things.

• There are currently two problems:
  1. P424 is used on items describing a given language and to describe the language used by a specific item (e.g. projects, pages, etc.). This could be simplified by splitting this into two properties.
  2. According to WMDE devs, monolingual codes at Wikidata are meant to be disconnected from Wikimedia codes. So codes derived from LANG() are not P424 codes.

We could solve this also by including a lookup directly in WQS ..

 Oppose We have to wait until WMDE devs decide which system to use. Instead of using a in-house system a standard ISO system can be used. Snipre (talk) 14:00, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
