Motivation

This qualifier would help clarify the role (whether syntactic, semantic, or something else) of a component of a multi-term lexeme—such as a Germanic separable verb, the productive result of the combination of a "to do" verb with a noun in many languages, or other kinds of compounds whose meanings are not just the sum of their parts.
