Motivation
editThis is useful for representing screen displays, as there are multiple properties for them. However, the canonical way to represent these displays is via an aspect-ratio and a diagonal length. When people compare the size of displays, this is what they usually compare. This is also how manufacturers advertise and list their parts so makes adding this information easier. If the physical length & width are desired, they should be derived properties. I'm proposing that the convention we can use for displays is length (P2043) in pixels, width (P2049) in pixels, aspect ratio (W:H) (P2061), and then this new property in physical units. I just found Wikidata:Property_proposal/display_size unfortunately after writing this up, but given that's 7yo, and it doesn't mention the pixels vs physical dimensions point, thought it'd be worth resurfacing. See also Wikidata:Property_proposal/resolution for some additional context in this area. --BasilicumTree (talk) 14:29, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
