Description | the local pressure deviation from the ambient (average, or equilibrium) atmospheric pressure, caused by a sound wave |
---|---|
Represents | sound pressure (Q1068172) |
Data type | Number (not available yet) |
Domain | anything that produces sound |
Example | Makita 6408 (Q23775259) → 88 decibels relative to 20 micropascals |

- "88 decibels relative to 20 micropascals" looks like it should be 88 dB qualifier "relative to"--do we have a datum property lying around? --Izno (talk) 15:02, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
- We do have decibel relative to 1 picowatt (Q23977060) as a unit of measurement, but I have no particular objection to breaking it out as a qualifier. James Hare (NIOSH) (talk) 15:31, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
- My concern is only that we don't have a large possible number of units--a "relative to" makes this easy to deal with. Hmm. I would need to review the meaning of sound power. --Izno (talk) 08:45, 24 May 2016 (UTC)
- Izno, is the existence of a "relative to" property a prerequisite for this proposal? James Hare (NIOSH) (talk) 13:23, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Give or take? Go see if there's any sort of "datum" property. If there is not, you should propose one. It will have many other uses, both as a property and as a qualifier. --Izno (talk) 17:21, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

- Comment sound pressure has unit pascal (Q44395). It's the sound pressure level which has unit decibel relative to 1 picowatt (Q23977060). Already by the creation of sound power level (P2797) the same mistake was made. Sound power has unit watt (Q25236), sound power level has unit decibel relative to 1 picowatt (Q23977060). --Pasleim (talk) 14:52, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
- @James Hare (NIOSH), Izno, Lymantria, Pasleim: Could someone knowledgable change/fix the proposal, possibly creating any necessary items? I see consensus for such a property, but personally I don't understand how that property would have to be created. --Srittau (talk) 22:54, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
- time-out @James Hare (NIOSH), Lymantria:: Given the open questions, this might benefit from a newly formulated proposal.
