- Motivation
The time signature or meter is an important characteristic of a musical composition, just like the tonality (and maybe even more so). I think it should be possible to add this data to Wikidata items. RElaphus (talk) 11:15, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
- Discussion
- Datatype should probably be 'item'; with an item for each possioble signature. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:43, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
- Support. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:44, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
- I do agree, the data type should really be 'item'; the items would be instances of Q155234 "time-signature". An item 'Alla breve' does already exist (Q249261) RElaphus (talk) 10:07, 4 December 2016 (UTC).
- Support looks like the item change has been done, this is a great idea, note we already have tonality (P826) which has item datatype. You mention "meter" but I think that's a different musical property (or poem property) - relating to length and pattern of verses in a song - maybe that should be an additional property. - Comment Maybe a sample of the items used should be produced? Would the time signature be exactly what was printed on the sheet music, or would they be placed in equivalent categories? E.g. will C be entered as 4 / 4 or vice versa or would they be separate items (this is probably one of the easier dilemma's, but one of the few I'm familiar with). This looks like a good idea, by the way! --Azertus (talk) 11:28, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
