- Motivation
This database is supported by en:Template:Taxonbar, but it must be manually added to the template call. Adding this Wikidata property would allow this identifier to be centralized and links to this database to be automatically included in the Taxonbar. Ahecht (talk) 16:46, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

- I suppose we can't avoid this, but I am quite uncomfortable: this is yet one more aggregator. Like all aggregators, it has its idiosynchrasies: it claims that ITIS uses "Sequoiadendron giganteum (Lindl.) Buchh." while in reality ITIS uses "Sequoiadendron giganteum (Lindl.) J. Buchholz". If I try to find the preferred form "Sequoiadendron giganteum (Lindl.) J.Buchholz" it reports "No Results for Sequoiadendron giganteum Lindl JBuchholz" (similar for "Sequoiadendron J.Buchholz"). It adds yet another structure, again at the cost of the offered content. Also, it sneaks in the infamous CoL. - Brya (talk) 03:58, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
- Checking the somewhat notorious Paralophia, I find "Paralophia P.J. Cribb & J. Hermans" placed in beetles (supposedly according to CoL 2007) and in Lepidoptera (supposedly according to Lepindex)! It can also be found placed correctly, attributed to CoL 2008, but this seems to indicate that it uses only the 2007 and 2008 versions of CoL?- Brya (talk) 04:25, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
- A taxon name can have multiple namebank IDs. E.g. bluefish (Q461432) has 167265, 267819, 267820, 2527517, 2576202, ... I don't think this is a useful mapping. Furthermore it looks like that the data are not updated anymore (see News). The WebServices is not working. So I would Oppose. --Succu (talk) 14:15, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
- Web services are working. To conclude that the data are not being updated because a single "news" page is not is bogus. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:42, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- Support. Used in Wikipedia. Also, our job here is to record such identifiers, not quibble about the content or quantity of the pages thay identify. 09:35, 30 May 2017 (UTC)Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits
- Actually our job is to judge the content or quantity of the pages that are going to be included. Otherwise, we would fail to make "Wikidata [...] central storage for the structured data of its Wikimedia sister projects including Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wikisource, and others." and would turn Wikidata into just a collection of random junk. - Brya (talk) 06:45, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
