Motivation

The information in the CIA world factbook is in the public domain and thus easily imported. Given that the World Factbook alone doesn't allow the creation of pretty graphs but our own tools do allow pretty graphs I think important the data might encourage outside parties to use our tools to make pretty graphics with it. It's also information that individual Wikipedia's might want to display in lists or templates. ChristianKl (talk) 12:29, 11 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion
  •   Comment Can you fill in "planned use" above? Do you plan to import any of this data?
    --- Jura 10:40, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'm not in the habit of planning the import ahead. In general, I think we should have Wikidata property to store the information that Wikipedia stores in it's list articles. Having the properties created makes it then easier for someone to import them. ChristianKl (talk) 07:43, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm generally not planning Wikidata activities much ahead. I think it's useful to create the properties that are needed to store the information that Wikipedia stores in it's lists. It doesn't really matter whether it takes a month, a year or two till someone finally fills the property with the data that belongs to it. ChristianKl (talk) 21:52, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  •   Oppose as we can't be sure that and how they will be used. It's not even sure if the proposer is interested in the properties. Merely creating unused properties creates too much overhead without any benefit. One or the other can quickly be created when someone actually wants to use it and makes sure that a consistent basis of values are developed and constraints are established. We don't want to reproduce Property_talk:P2595 where the proposer didn't actually use a property they proposed and then complained about Pasleim (talkcontribslogs) who was so kind to clean-up random uses.

  • @ChristianKl, Jura1: Given no supporting statements and an oppose, and no activity for over 3 months, I'm marking this as   Not done. If these proposals are revived I suggest picking one or two most important from the (18!) listed and focusing on those first, with some good examples and a usage plan.
