Wikidata:WikiProject RKD
WikiProject RKD is an effort to document the various properties and volunteer (art-related) work on Wikidata that uses the databases managed by Netherlands Institute for Art History (Q758610).

People linked to RKDartists edit
- First of all, you can count how many we have today:

As of Wikidata's birthday in 2022, there were 104,239 people linked to the RKDartists database through RKDartists ID (P650), but not all of these people are linked as artists - many were collectors or dealers.
Collectors linked to RKDartists edit

As of Wikidata's birthday in 2022, there were 42,484 paintings linked to the RKDimages database through RKDimages ID (P350). These are not necessarily linked 1-1 to artists indexed in the RKDartists, though theoretically most of them should be! Reasons are attributions to "anonymous" or "notname" artists still missing a Wikidata items, old metadata in RKDimages versus modern exhibitions or auction sales, disputed attributions, "group effort" paintings where one artist does the foreground and one the background, etc.
RKD to Match edit
This is a set of lists of RKDimages object records for large painting collections or for popular artists, where there are no matched Wikidata items yet. Currently concentrating on connecting painting records in RKDimages to existing painting items in Wikidata.

RKDimages objects edit
The set of artists in the RKDimages database is a subset of the people registered in the RKDartists database. On Wikidata's birthday, 29 October 2022, the homepage of RKDimages said it has 264,163 records. Of these, 135,587 are paintings (by a bit over 10,000 artists). Wikidata does have items for a few prints, tapestries, ceiling installations and other objects in the RKDimages database, but mostly Wikidata links to paintings. To find the number of paintings per artist, search in the left menu for paintings under "Object category" :

Note: this list is different than the top list of painters in Wikidata - obviously not all popular painters in the world have items related to the Netherlands.

This list was taken from the RKDimages website and 7,968 were matched to Wikidata items in October 2022.
To find the number of paintings in RKDimages per artist, search in the left menu of the RKDimages screen for objects, select "painting", and then scroll in the left menu under "Artist name" to see top painters (numbers seen on 29 October 2022 - click "more" to lookup other artists by alphabetical letter of family name):

The set of collections in the RKDimages database is a combination of large institutions, auction houses, small dealers and a subset of the collecting people registered in the RKDartists database. Note that tracking for this project is based on the Wikipedia listeria lists which are in use for the WD:SOAP project and are built off of simple Wikdiata queries. These may include more or less data at the painting level than the RKDimages record contains. These are by no means mirror images but complement each other, with all of the caveats of aggregated metadata, especially art provenance. Not all paintings in Wikidata are up to date on current collections, and not all paintings in RKDimages record the latest collection (or all previous collections). To find the number of paintings in RKDimages per collection, search in the left menu of the RKDimages screen for objects, select "painting", and then scroll in the left menu to see top painting collections under "Collection" :

Challenges edit
- Sometimes a painting has an RKD number but the artist doesn't and the other way around. No action needed.
- Sometimes a painting/artist/catalog has an RKD number but the item is lacking information - you can help by adding to the Wikidata item.
