MechQuesterBot (talk • contribs • new items • new lexemes • SUL • Block log • User rights log • User rights • xtools)
Operator: MechQuester (talk • contribs • logs)
Task/s:
- One time run over a few days. It is just to add P421 and UTC+08:00 (Q6985) to every single location in china. Affected pages are up to 620,000 for Chinese locations.
- Use the descriptioner tool to add "village in China" to 588k places.
- Aside for the 1-time run, I plan on use it to add time zones to countries around the world
Code: There is no code. Everything is manual.
Function details: I plan to use this bot account to separate the repetitive edits from manual edits on my main account.

- Looks good to me! ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:12, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- This user has recently added the Central European Time to some villages in pacific ocean (example) and North America (example). I don't have the confidence that his bot will work properly. Steak (talk) 20:02, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Another example of typical SJW standards derived from the internet. Oppose anything you don't quite agree with or finding a few errors out of many. MechQuester (talk) 20:06, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- More examples: Desert Springs does not have UTC+8, and many Indonesian villages, e.g. Limpok, are also wrong, because they have UTC+7, not UTC+8. I could go on with more examples, but I think I made my point. MechQuester does not seem to have an adequate geographic knowledge required for such task. Steak ([[User talk:Steak|
- Censoring the discussion is a no go. I now clearly vote against the bot. Steak (talk) 08:29, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

- Hi ArthurPSmith, yes, there are numerous items that needs to be updated. One thing I noticed are the lack of descriptions. That irks me. It woudl be better if I used a general template like "Village in China" to every location. MechQuester (talk) 20:30, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

- CommentThis query (currently 112 results) returns wrongly added timezones. They were added based on the assumptions that all commune of France (Q484170) are in UTC+1. If this job is done, much preciser queries and references are needed to determine the timezone of a geographical location. --Pasleim (talk) 13:08, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- I take it I should withdraw this request? MechQuester (talk) 15:38, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- If you confine it to China it seems good to me at least - China has only a single timezone, right? Or is that not true either? ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:15, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
::yes. For now, I will confine it to China. Its one time zone across all. MechQuester (talk) 19:24, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
- No, there is a subtlety: As you can read in en:Time_in_China, China has five time zones, but all of them have the same zone time, namely UTC+8. For example, the Central European Time and West Africa Time have both regular zone time UTC+1, but they are not the same time zone, because the CET undergoes Daylight Saving Time, the WAT does not. Since the property is called "located in time zone", adding to all of them UTC+8 seems not right to me. Steak (talk) 08:50, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
A user who permanently replaces or removes the comments of other users is not a trustworthy person and should definitely not be allowed to execute a bot. Till now MechQuester has not even started to fix his errors, so it seems he expects other people to clean up the mess behind him. Steak (talk) 16:42, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This person should find something better to do. MechQuester (talk) 17:41, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Somehow I thought it might have been accidental, but I doubt that now. So I don't think this bot should be approved.

- There needs to be an understanding. You see the edits in my bot account with those edits. Those are fine. The other edits are not fine and thus are unacceptable. It is illogical to say that I can't use a bot flag for other tasks. Both of you need to learn to differentiate a little clearer. I have no problems with adding Q6985 to places in china. It is a matter of other places that firm precedence. Is that clear? and Drop the stick MechQuester (talk) 18:34, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Your bot edits are also not fine as you claim. In Q13782415 you source your edit with "chinese wikipedia", but there is not even an article about this village in chinese wikipedia. So this reference is useless, if not even invalid. And you still didn't clear up your mess. Besides that: Correct bot edits is just one aspect. Behaviour is also important, and your's is very bad. Steak (talk) 19:33, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I withdraw the request. MechQuester (talk) 19:50, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
