Task/s:
Import and source Property Sex from VIAF.org using the IDs earlier imported by VIAFbot and human contributors. The Sex property at VIAF.org is itself sourced primarily from the BNF (Bibliotheque national de France), and otherwise from one of the other Contributing national libraries. Therefore no sensitive information will be imported that could not be found in a Public National Library record.

- Great! Have you been able to do a trial run? Legoktm (talk) 03:42, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I've talked to the BNF, and they say that there is not guarantee that in some cases, sex might mean, gender, and it's not particularly sensistive to those people where there sex is not the same as their gender? I'm not sure if that will be a problem. I will run some test statistics to see how often this conflicts, and report back before continuing. Maximilianklein (talk) 22:56, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I do not think anyone makes a distinction between sex and gender in France. --Zolo (talk) 07:55, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Comment, I think it could remove "imported from Wikipedia" when it adds "imported from VIAF". In many ways, "imported from Wikipedia" is about the worst source imaginable, and should be removed whenever we get the chance. --Zolo (talk) 07:55, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Update: I published a report of the research of what could be contributed at http://hangingtogether.org/?p=2877. En sum there are 52,000 additional properties of sex that could be added, and currently 91,000 matches with over 99.9% agreement on the matches. I had also made 3 successful test edits. Maximilianklein (talk) 21:26, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Support If there is a 99.9% agreement I don't see any problem to run the bot. I agree with Zolo, "imported from Wikipedia" isn't intresting if there is a better source. Tpt (talk) 05:54, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
