This is the first quarterly newsletter related to WikiProject India (Q11037573) in Wikidata. In this newsletter, we will discuss about what happened in the past related to Wikidata activities in India.

WikiProject India related major timeline:

  • 07.09.2017 - WikiProject India was initiated by Titodutta
  • 08.09.2017 - WikiProject ISRO started.
  • 18.09.2017 - WikiProject West Bengal started.
  • 23.07.2018 - WikiProject Indian Railways started.
  • 13.09.2018 - Mahir256 created the logo representing Indian flag but with Wikidata touch. The top set of bars reads "संहिता" and the bottom set reads "தரவுகள்" in Morse code. The Ashoka Chakra of Indian flag was replaced with a circular version of the Wikidata logo.
  • 24.05.2019 - Kerala started its journey as separate WikiProject.

Milestones

 
Huge data ingestion happened in West Bengal from October 2018 to May 2019
  • 50 properties related to India are now in Wikidata, including 4 specific to West Bengal, 2 specific to Gujarat, and 1 specific to Kerala.
  • 9038 Indian railway stations are in Wikidata now; the network in West Bengal is also entirely connected. Check the data completeness in world railways statistics page.
  • 13465 Indian hospitals are now in Wikidata, 95% of them are located in West Bengal, where all Government run hospitals were covered. Check the data completeness in world hospital statistics page.
  • Complete election data about 8246 candidates participating in 2014 Indian general election (Q3587169)      in 543 Lok Sabha constituencies were added.
  • Went from 685,000 labels in Bengali on 05.11.2018 to 1 million by 08.04.2019.
  • 40374 villages of West Bengal now have 2001 and 2011 Indian census data.
  • 11319 schools of Kerala have Wikidata items now.
