- Abstract
To move Wikipedia/Wikidata to a more useful encyclopedia based on your current location we need to develop the coordinate location (P625) concept.
Today in Stockholm, Sweden 50% of all locations in Wikidata are for a cemetery North Stockholm (see blog)==> a person passing by on E4 and asks Wikipedia/WIkidata what is near me will get 2000 graves presented. Good or bad?
In this session, I would like to start a discussion how this model can be developed. Not everyone is interested in locations of graves. Is the Wikidata approach with P625 enough or how do we develop it to meet the needs of clients/software.
Todays clients has different approaches accessing locations one is to ask Wikipedia and get the primary coordinate for an article ==> but what is the primary coordinate for a person is that
- were he is located right now - in the grave
- were he was born
- were statues of him can be found
- were art created by him/her can be found
- or what places he/she has painter..
My understanding is that status today is
- Mobile Wiki Software
- V for Wiki excellent app that helps me find geocoded Wikiarticles in different languages and asks the Wikipedia article for the primary coordinates (blog CR) ?!??!
- Wikipedia for Iphone asks the Wikipedia article for the primary coordinates (blog with CR, T171284)
- Webtool
- User stories for locations (please add more)
- As a tourist visiting a place I would like to see most popular "tourist" places and read about them
- As a tourist visiting a place interested in XXX I would like to see places near me related to XXX
- A painter
- Art
- Architecture
- a specific piece on a building like watches with historic interest
- things related to a time period / or country
- see time periods in a timeline like Histropedia create and then select a timeperiod and see locations near me from that timeperiod
- As a tourist visiting a place interested in art I would like to see what painting is near me and read more about them
- also see paintings done by painters that influenced my painter of interest (example Swedish painter Ehrenstrahl Q902649 influenced by Q5599, Q150679)
- As a tourist visiting a place interested in history I would like to see all places named after historical persons (blogpost in Swedish showing named after)
- As a cemetery visitor on a cemetery I would like to find from my smartphone what graves of interest is near me and read more about them on Wikipedia
- by selecting a person see locations near me related to him/her
- As a cemetery visitor on a cemetery I would like to find all graves near me and also connected to external resource P3217
- As visiting a cemetery interested in music I would like to see graves of composers and listen to music on Spotify for those composers
- As Wikidata gets more and more external sources connected Wikidata will be more of a hub to good information sources ==> that will be one way of start navigate "near me" i.e.
- History of Parliament ID (P1614) please show locations related to were this source is used as reference
- Dictionary of Swedish National Biography ID (P3217) please show locations related to were this source is used as reference and items has named after (see blogpost in Swedish)
- .... please add .....
see also blogpost Example:
- Timeline that will
- A Timeline that is the start of selecting what Time period or type of things that should be shown on a map near me...
