# symbol in URL not working in link
editI've discovered that when you click on an identifier in an item, you get a 404 error page, at least in Firefox. For some reason, the # is being converted to %23. For example the identifier A/anthony-trey.php#48783 should have the URL http://doollee.com/PlaywrightsA/anthony-trey.php#48783 but the URL showing in the Firefox URL address box gets changed to http://doollee.com/PlaywrightsA/anthony-trey.php%2348783 and that URL returns a 404 error. http://doollee.com/PlaywrightsA/anthony-trey.php#48783 works perfectly fine, and the URL is actually working fine in the property documentation/discussion page, but not in the individual items. Anyone know how to fix this? UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 08:42, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
- I remember I already experienced such issue but I cannot how it was solved. Maybe VIGNERON or ArthurPSmith are aware of this problem and have some ideas how to solve it. Pamputt (talk) 09:31, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
- Should be fixed now, but it can take up to 24 hours for the URLs to become valid. This doesn't prevent anyone from adding identifiers in the meantime though. Infrastruktur (talk) 09:32, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for putting in the external ID redirector. I've never formulated one of those before and the instructions at https://wikidata-externalid-url.toolforge.org/ were a bit confusing. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 19:01, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
