Converter service to forward to Geohack edit

The previous converter service, which turned the grid references into WGS 84 latitudes and longitudes, which it passed on to GeoHack, has been down since the demise of the ToolServer.

The template on en-wiki that used to call the converter, en:Template:Ordnance Survey coordinates, has now been re-written so that the conversion is done on-wiki in a Lua module, en:Module:Ordnance_Survey_coordinates, with the advantage that the template now generates a link that visibly points to GeoHack.

This doesn't help us on Wikidata though, where we need to be able to send the string as part of a URL to a webservice. It shouldn't be too hard to get the old code up and running again (oe to replace it with new code - there are many libraries for this on the net); but it would require somebody to maintain it, and restart it if the server falls over. I have asked at en:Talk:Template:Ordnance Survey coordinates, but no positive response as yet. Jheald (talk) 22:39, 22 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

As this has been a problem for a long time, with nobody seeming to be able to help, I've swapped out the formatter URL for nearby.org.uk. It's not forwarding to Geohack as desired, but it's a whole lot better than an error page. Lewis Hulbert (talk) 15:23, 19 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Assigning grid references to buildings edit

Saltwood Castle (Q402419) has a warning because as a castle (Q23413) its not a geographic location (Q2221906). I suggest this restriction is relaxed to include architectural structure (Q811979) to include buildings, dams etc, which clearly do have grid references.
