Conflation

edit

Hello @Loenstock: You've merge Guillaume Le Clerc with Q85449991, an item created by User:Reinheitsgebot, a bot known for creating mixed items.[1] Now these two persons are mixed:

  • William the Clerk of Picardy (Q1979740): Old French writer, author of the Roman de Fergus. Not to be confused with Guillaume le Clerc de Normandie, author of the Bestiaire divin et du Besant de Dieu.
  • William the Clerk of Normandy (Q8020910): Old French writer, author of the Bestiaire divin of the Besant de Dieu. Not to be confused with Guillaume le Clerc de Normandie, author of the Roman de Fergus

Imho the best way to solve the problem is to undo the merge and delete Q85449991. --Kolja21 (talk) 06:42, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi! It took quite some time to go through each identifier in both items and sorting them out -- now I'm quite confident that the identifiers in each item are correct (except those such as VIAF who conflate both writers, for which nothing can be done unfortunately). What would undoing everything and deleting Q85449991 help to achieve in this case? Loenstock (talk) 18:49, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for checking the IDs. Undo the merge would have three benefits: 1. it's fast, 2. it's clean (there are still IDs like P7902 on both items) and 3. an item, that have been mixed from the beginning, should be not be turned into a redirect. @‎MisterSynergy: FYI. --Kolja21 (talk) 21:50, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
The redirect is deleted. This was indeed not something we would want to keep. ---MisterSynergy (talk) 22:14, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@MisterSynergy: Thanks. @Loenstock: I did some clean up but some IDs are still on both items. LCAuth n83181766 says: "not same as Guillaume, clerc de Normandie, nor Guillaume, author of La male honte; probably from Picardy." So we have three persons for two items. --Kolja21 (talk) 23:22, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
