Edition data edit
Data for a specific edition, such as the place of publication, the number of pages, or the way an author's name is "stated as" do not belong on the data item for the Work. This information belongs on the data item for that edition. Likewise, the data item for a work should not link to specific editions on the Internet Archive. Those editions must have their own data items separate from the data item for the work. --EncycloPetey (talk) 13:54, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
Разница очевидна на примере элементов War and Peace (Q161531) и Guerre et paix (Q19172185). --Ksc~ruwiki (talk) 19:51, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Versions and works are different per the above linked explanation. Please create a separate item for an edition, and link it back to the work. — billinghurst sDrewth 22:53, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- Oh dear, I am seeing that you are converting multiple items that are editions into works. That is not the way to do things. You need to create a new item for the work, then put links back and forward between the two. — billinghurst sDrewth 00:43, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
Hello, billinghurst. I think the original "edition" of the work and the work itself is the same item. Am I wrong? Maybe this moment has already been discussed before? Алексей Скрипник (talk) 10:19, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- According to criteria, no, as data that is collated is different for both items, while some are jointly shared, some are specific to one or the other. I think of these as the conceptual and intellectual property as sitting with the WORK, and it does not even need to be printed, for example, a lecture would be the WORK, with the first published edition being some time later. I separate them, and to admit more laziness, I often just create the EDITION and never create the WORK, but that is just my grumpiness at Wikidata for not making that easy. <shrug> — billinghurst sDrewth 06:23, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Q-Wert-273 (talk) 07:01, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
--Алексей Скрипник (talk) 09:06, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
Q-Wert-273 (talk) 13:59, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
--Алексей Скрипник (talk) 14:21, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
Hi Alexey,
had writers like him once Wikipedia articles because you are creating them with a Freebase-ID from the start?-- U. M. Owen (talk) 18:11, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, U. M. Owen. Yes, I create entries for writers with Freebase ID (or Google Knowledge Graph) and try to find corresponding VIAF entries for them. Алексей Скрипник (talk) 19:03, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
- Does this mean they had a Wiki article or does it say nothing?--U. M. Owen (talk) 19:23, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
- No, most of them don't have corresponding articles in Wikipedia. Алексей Скрипник (talk) 21:26, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
