Merging items edit

Hallo Chris j wood,

If you were not already using it, you may want to check out the merge.js gadget for merging items. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically nominate the page you are merging from for deletion. This way of nominating also makes it easier for the admins to process such requests. For support and other options you can check the help page about merging.

Kilmiston edit

A civil parish in Not the same as a village. I have undone your merge Yger (talk) 18:31, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Yger: An interesting theoretical point. But pragmatically, in many cases they are the same thing. There are a huge number of Wikidata entries that are instances of both village and civil parish, and I'm sure Kilmeston would have been the same if it hadn't been for a confusion about the spelling (both are valid, both are equally valid for village and civil parish). I have not re-reverted your changes because I do understand your theoretical point, and it may be that someone needs to take on the massive project of demerging villages from civil parishes throughout Wikidata (but rest assured that won't be me). However I have modified the names to ensure that we don't propogate the misunderstanding that village and parish have different names. I've also delinked the commons category from the civil parish entry, as I also merged the commons categories, and that one is now a redirect. -- Chris j wood (talk) 18:55, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
