Translation request edit

Hello.

Can you translate and upload en:Baku Zoo and en:Baku State University in Swedish Wikipedia?

Yours sincerely, Sarvathi (talk) 12:41, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Sarvathi This is Wikidata. Regarding SvWp please address me on Swedish Wikipedia. That makes it much more easy working in the different projects. Deryni (talk) 16:07, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hello. Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I live in Turkey under the Islamist dictatorship of Erdoğan, and Wikipedia is banned and blocked along with tens of thousands of other (mostly harmless and non-political) websites. Curiously, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons are still not banned yet, which are our only means of access and communication left, just like in China. If it is not impertinent of me, could you transfer my request to Swedish Wikipedia, where users might be interested in creating them? There must be a special page where requested articles can be put. If I lived in a democratic and secular country, I would have put the request in the appropriate page in Wikipedia myself. Sarvathi (talk) 10:03, 18 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Sarvathi Hello again. Then I better understand your request. Of course I'll see to it, that your request will be publicly announced. In SvWp we have a projct called "Mission of the Month". I will put the request there, and then it surely will be articles in a month or two. Best regards. Deryni (talk) 10:53, 18 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much. Sarvathi (talk) 01:07, 20 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Sarvathi It took some time, but now both articles are also in Swedish Wikipedia. Thank you for the idea to put them there! Deryni (talk) 18:11, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

--Larske (talk) 05:46, 6 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Larske:Absolut. Tack för påpekandet! Deryni (talk) 05:49, 6 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

SIMBAD-Id edit

Can I ask you to specify SIMBAD ID (P3083) for your items? It would definitely help to import more data there --Ghuron (talk) 17:52, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Ghuron: Well, certainly. It will not be today, but I can promise to do that pretty soon. Deryni (talk) 18:06, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Ghuron: Actually I don't know how to create an Identifier in WD, before there is a first one. Can I in some way create it under Statements?? It would be useful to know. Since your kind request I've created quite a few new star-objects, so I really wuold like to be able to set an Identifyer. Kindly, Deryni (talk) 19:20, 10 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes, you can add it in statements, and UI will move it to "identifiers". If you'll see exclamation mark near the newly added simbad-id, click on it. Most likely it will tell you that there is another item that hold the same simbad-id, in that case you might want to merge them (see Help:Merge#Gadget). Alternatively, before creating a new item, you can check if item with the same simbad-id already exists - see very simple query, you'll need to put your simbad-id in quotes.
Please do not hesitate to ask me if you have any qustions Ghuron (talk) 06:50, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Excellent! That explains everything. All the best! Deryni (talk) 08:03, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
And here is a query listing all SIMBAD ID (P3083) that are assigned to more than one Wikidata object. There should be no rows in the result from this query
Right now there more than 7 000 such SIMBAD ID, but the number is decreasing as Ghuron is cleaning up after the mass import during the last couple of days. As can be seen in the list, some SIMBAD ID is present in more than 30 objects where all of the content seems to be identical.
@Ghuron: Is there a reason why you are redirecting instead of merging these "multiple objects"? --Larske (talk) 08:16, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Larske: Technically I'm using merge API, but since those items are identical, there is nothing to "merge", so "donor" item is cleared and become redirect. All unused redirects eventually are deleted by the bot Ghuron (talk) 08:21, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
OK, fine. I look forward to seeing the result 0 from this query (currently more than 25K)
--Larske (talk) 08:39, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I've underestimated effect of large wdqs replication lag on item creation :( After I fix duplicates, I'll change algorithm of simbad sync, so probability of those mistakes will be much much smaller Ghuron (talk) 08:49, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment edit

Dear Deryni,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender system that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our system based on your previous edits. Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.

The study will start in late January 2022 or early February 2022, and it should take no more than 30 minutes.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards
