Merging items edit

Hallo Mr. Granger,

For merging items, you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically place a request to delete the empytied page. This way of nominating makes it a lot easier for the admins to process the requests.

Occupation: Esperantist edit

Hello, regarding your edit that removed "instance of: occupation" from Q860918: Why do you think that being an Esperantist, i.e. "person speaking or using the Esperanto international language", does not count as an occupation, when the latter is defined here as "any activity of a person (hobby, work, pastime, professional sport...)"? Esperantist's occupation indeed is Esperanto, which would probably be classified as a hobby for most people (or passion) and work or field of study for a few. Anyway, also hobby here is subclass of "activity" which itself is again subclass of "occupation". I now see that it might be better to say that "Esperantist" is a subclass (not instance) of "occupation", but I would like to know what your reason for the removal was at the first place. I am new to all this slightly advanced editing on Wikidata, so I will be glad if you could give me an explanation. Thank you. --Blahma (talk) 23:48, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

I apologize—it was a mistake on my part. When I saw "occupation", I assumed it meant "occupation" as in "job" rather than as in "activity". I should have read the description of Q13516667 before I removed it. Thanks for pointing that out! Mr. Granger (talk) 01:15, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Apology accepted. However, in the meantime, I have learned that it's only individual people who are "instances of" an occupation (although it is prefered to use the "occupation" property instead), while specific occupations are "subclasses of" more generic occupations. Therefore, I have already changed the item accordingly. Thank you for helping me realize my mistake, although inadvertently. --Blahma (talk) 02:01, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Cetere, saluton! (Mi ĵus rimarkis, ke ankaŭ vi estas Esperantisto :-) --Blahma (talk) 02:01, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Crab edit

"Q17549935 merged with Anomura (Q526867)" - I suppose that this is not exact. I believe that sk:q:Crab fits better to Brachyura (Q40802). --Infovarius (talk) 20:42, 14 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I made the merge purely based on the fact that Anomura (Q526867) and q:sk:Krab both link to the Commons category commons:Category:Anomura. I don't speak Slovak, so aside from the Commons category I have no idea how best to organize the items. If you think it should be linked to Brachyura (Q40802) instead, feel free to make the change.
