Thanks!

Yes, you are right, it was the wrong property. It was supposed to be NGA lighthouse ID (P3563) and not National Gallery of Art artist ID (P2252). It is easy to pick the wrong one. /ℇsquilo 19:21, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

I assumed something like that happened. :-) Multichill (talk) 19:38, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

Wikinieuws

RKD to match/Louvre

Hi Multichill, I just lent some hand today at Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/RKD to match/Louvre. Just wanted to let you know that, while some paintings did not have an inventory number in RKDImages and thus needed human intervention, many others had a matching one that you didn't seem to pick. So, if you can tweak a bit your process for the Louvre collection, this may help: every Louvre inventory number here starts with one or more letters followed by a space, so if you have one in RKD which is full numbers try prefixing it with "INV " for matching. Also if you have dotted letters on RKD side, you should try removing dots to match as this is the canonical form. Hope that'll help move things forward. I stopped linking them for today, but if you can improve matching of those "obvious" ones, I may help later with those that really need attention ;-) Cheers. -- Nono314 (talk) 16:14, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

@Nono314: happy to see someone is working on this! I use regular expressions to improve the inventory numbers. Based on your suggestions I added a couple and had quite a few new (automatic) matches. I might try to improve the regexes a bit more later. Thanks for helping. Multichill (talk) 18:00, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, looks pretty good. I'd try to follow up with the effort in the upcomng days/weeks -- Nono314 (talk) 19:20, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
Seems to be going pretty god... Maybe a refresh? -- Nono314 (talk) 21:33, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
@Nono314: done. Didn't do any auto add because I'm not sure all are correct so you should check these by hand. Multichill (talk) 21:51, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Not sure how to deal with paintings that are in another collection than the Louvre now (sometimes for a couple of centuries...). A number of them are correctly matched to their Qid but are still listed here as "to match" along with a mention of "id already in use on" (of course!). Are you expecting to have full collections history in Wikidata to recognize them? Or should those with an end date on RKD be excluded? There is also a set of entries that are actually on deposit from the Louvre in smaller (often regional) French museums. However those have a much lesser coverage and thus there is no item for those paintings yet. Maybe at some point ShonagonBot will broaden its scope of Joconde imports... For now, I think I've dealt with all what is available in Wikidata, except some dubious cases --Nono314 (talk) 14:46, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
@Nono314: we aim to have full provenance. So every collection a painting has been in. See Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Collection/Adriaan van der Hoop for a whole list of fun cases.
So yes, the collection should be added and if needed qualified with a start and end date. A work can of course be in multiple collections at the same time (not multiple locations in the same time), a good example of that is The Night Watch (Q219831). So please do update the "Id already in use on" items. I just had a look at The Shell Fisher (Q17493282) / RKD 113237 / http://www.musee-orsay.fr/en/collections/index-of-works/notice.html?nnumid=981 and it sure has some nice provenance data available! Multichill (talk) 17:42, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
I know that's the ultimate goal :) But for now the average case is having the current one, not to mention those without any. For the full history, I see it more as an import task once items have been matched to a reliable source. I didn't know much about RKD images, but now that I've spent some time with it, I think it can be a good candidate since it's both pretty complete and well structured (start and end date clearly stated). When you look at RKD 49945 for example, it really doesn't look like a Louvre painting where it merely transited, so I wouldn't have expected it on the list. But I would understand it, if someone who already has parsing code for RKD and corresponding collection items may want to import that data ;) --Nono314 (talk) 19:02, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Invitation to Blocking tools consultation

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation's Anti-Harassment Tools team is inviting all Wikimedians to discuss new blocking tools and improvements to existing blocking tools in December 2017 for development work in early 2018.

We are specifically contacting you for your ideas because you are one of the top users of the blocking tool on Wikidata. We think that your comments will help us make better improvements. You can post to the discussion in the language that you are most comfortable expressing your ideas.

Other ways that you can help

  1. Spread the word that the consultation is happening; this is an important discussion for making decisions about improving the blocking tools.
  2. Help with translation.
  3. If you know of current or previous discussions about blocking tools that happened on your wiki, share the links.
  4. Help summarize the discussion to share back to your wiki.

If you have questions you can contact me on wiki or send an email to the Anti-Harassment Tools team.
