Hi. I think students workings on these geology items need some more guidelines on how the data is laid down in Wikidata, which properties should be used, how labels and descriptions are formatted, and in general what exactly are they expected to do here. I see there's lots of confusion around

  1. which proprties to use, and around subclass of (P279) and instance of (P31) in particular (rocks and other types of materials normally should have P279 statement and no P31 statement, see further information in Help:Basic membership properties)
  2. duplicate items being created for subjects that already have Wikidata item (e.g. here for granite (Q41177), or here for egg fossil (Q14600828))
  3. label not being capitalized unless it's a proper noun (Help:Label#Capitalization), description not being full sentence (Help:Description#Guidelines for descriptions in English)

Thank you for noticing, with my assistants I will correct what I see and for next generation I will be more strict. Rankas (talk) 12:27, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
