Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors edit

Dear Runi Gerardsen,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.

Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

If you’re interested in participating and have 15-20 minutes to chat (I promise to keep the time!), please either contact me at kholoudsaa@gmail.com or kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdmmFHaiB20nK14wrQJgfrA18PtmdagyeRib3xGtvzkdn3Lgw/viewform?usp=sf_link with your choice of the times that work for you.

I’ll follow up with you to figure out what method is the best way for us to connect.

Please contact me if you have any questions or require more information about this project.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

Not Martin Schongauer edit

Hi Runi, Q99435924 is not a painting by Martin Schongauer. It was painted several decades before Schongauer's birth. --Edelseider (talk) 19:38, 4 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Edelseider, Schongauer was the proposed author for it until the 1860’, that’s why I’ve added it immediately with the deprecated mark. That way it indicate that it was once thought Schongauer was the author but that it’s not the case any more. Deprecated statement must not be removed precisely for this reason (btw it prevents people with obsolete sources to add the information again). Runi Gerardsen (talk) 19:59, 4 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ah, okay. I did not know about that. My bad. Thank you! --Edelseider (talk) 20:01, 4 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Arthistory and Wikidata edit

I stumbled on your arthistory activities on Wikidata. Well actually no, I didn't stumble, your avalanche hit me :-) Great work!

On the German language Wikipedia there is a working group of arthistoriens in academia who are working towards integrating Wikimedia Projects into the study of art history: Wikipedia:Arbeitsgemeinschaft Kunstwissenschaften + Wikipedia.

I think you could be a valuable contributor.

On May 11th there will be a session on the utilization of Wikidata in the description of artwork and of the added benefits the use of this structured data offers to research: kuwiki: tips & tools #6: Wikidata with a follow up how-to workshop the following week. The session "kuwiki: tips & tools #7: Bilder in der Wikipedia" on June 1 might also be of interest to you. Wuselig (talk) 06:34, 26 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Wuselig ! My work on the projects is largely intended for historians, so it’s good if it’s of use for some of them =) . There will be some more avalanche, as I’m going to create WP articles for some of those artworks, and I have some more exhibition catalogues to go through.
I’ll have a look on this, the main problem is that although I read German rather well, I haven’t talk in German for many years and can’t really speak it properly any more. Runi Gerardsen (talk) 06:05, 28 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
If you just want to listen in, that is fine too. And sometimes, depending on the audience, the discussion is also in English.
I stumbled on your work, because you created Wikidata-Items to exhibits I systametically photographes, and largy categorized on Commons in connection to this special exhibition on Frederik Barbarossa: Barbarossa - The art of rule (Q115145411) Enough there, that may be of interest to historians. But I didn't take the time yet to reconcile every cataogue entry with Wikidata yet. Wuselig (talk) 18:26, 28 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello @Wuselig I’ll try to drop by if my work obligations allow it. I’m just a bit confused about the process, as one page says inscriptions isn’t needed and another one that people interested shall write to kuwiki@wikipedia.de. Should I send a message before coming or can I just drop by ? Runi Gerardsen (talk) 20:01, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
You can just drop by at these sessions. If you want to become more active, you can inscribe yourself on the project page. They also hold contacts outside of the Wikiverse at museums and in academica. These people still feel more comfortable using emails Wuselig (talk) 20:44, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
